Job Purpose:

Parich Hall Caretaker

This post is responsible to the Clerk to the Council

Main Duties and Responsibilities


Open and close the hall and conference rooms at the agreed times which includes booked evening and weekend activities.

Help users to access chairs, tables and any other equipment required.

Manage any queries or problems associated with bookings reporting more serious matters to the Clerk.

Caretaking service

Open the Parish Hall at agreed times for regular daytime activities (e.g. playgroups).

Clean the toilet facilities after bookings, as required.

Clean the hall and associated facilities after bookings, as required.

To stock check cleaning supplies and equipment and inform the Parish Office of replacements as required.

Cover for the Morgan Centre Caretaker during holidays and sickness absence.

Litter pick around the building on a regular basis and perform any other tasks required to ensure the area is kept clean and tidy.

Ensure that the hot water / heating system and  air conditioning is appropriately set for usage having due regard to energy conservation.

Ensure that all alarms and locks have been set and lights switched on/off and are operating in accordance with agreed practice.

Install flood barriers as required (prior to expected heavy periods of rain).

Report on any maintenance / grounds maintenance issues to the Clerk.

To monitor the sump pump and foul pump and report to the Clerk any issues

requiring attention.

Make checks on the security of the site in the evenings and at weekends taking appropriate action and reporting any problems as required.

Work in partnership with statutory agencies, local people and service users to maintain positive relationships and co-operation in the management of the site.

Work with other Parish Council staff to ensure the maintenance of a clean and safe environment for visitors and staffs, ensuring all appropriate Health and Safety guidelines are adhered to in accordance with Council Health and Safety policy.


Maintain personal timesheets, in accordance with the Parish Council policy and procedure.

Maintain an Incident Log.

Completion of documentation pertaining to emergency lighting, alarm testing and fire drills.


Use and maintain any tools and equipment provided in accordance with instructions.

Work as requested on similar tasks at the Morgan Centre including covering for other staff as requested and required.

Act as a key holder in case of the need for emergency access.
Carry out any other reasonable duties commensurate with the responsibilities of this post that may from time to time be requested.
Attend occasional staff team meetings and training as requested.

Work at all times to maintain the Council’s policies with regard to confidentiality, equal opportunities, anti-discrimination and health and safety.
